Un-Feckin Believable.

From +Tim Capper, couldn`t say it better:

Un-Feckin Believable

They admit they recieved a manual penalty notice for unnatural link building.

They write an apology on their blog and disavow the links ...... 10 Days later they are back.

This is B....S on so many levels !

This article describes it even better, imo (ht +Micah Fisher-Kirshner ):

  • Danny Sullivan: Rap Genius is back in Google, after a penalty for unnatural linking meant you couldn't find it by name. Bad for Rap Genius, but also bad for Google -- you can't drop a site people expect to find without looking like its your search engine that's broken. But is is back for generic lyric searches that are most important to it? For "rap lyrics," yes -- but for others, the removal of all those unnatural links might also mean a continued loss in signals that were translating into rankings.
  • Jim Munro: ...the pretence of a level playing field is no longer valued, apparently.
  • George Buchan: The playing fields are on a multi storey car park, The top level empty their toilets on the rest lol
  • peter rota: +W.E. Jonk once again google favoring big brands.

  • James Maabadi: your right, bogus on so many levels. ;
  • W.E. Jonk: Micah thanks for the link, that explains it much better. Personally I can see why G would go for a rather small penalty (like 10-14 days) if there is something of a trust signal. To me, it is clear that RG or interflora are genuine sites. However, in these cases (especially RG) it feels more like G is trying to promote their guidelines.
