Question about noindexing category pages and tag, author and date archives.

Quick question about noindexing category pages and tag, author and date archives. Is this a must? Is the problem of duplicate content due to all of them being indexed really that bad? Ive been building backlinks for 2 category pages for a site of mine and just yesterday was looking at the settings in All in one SEO plugin and much to my dismay I see that an option was checked to noindex category pages! I should have checked those settings right after installing it I suppose, anyway its been over 24hrs since I unchecked it and my category pages still dont seem to be indexed, how long do I need to wait for this?

Im not interested in the tag, author and archive pages ranking, should I leave them as noindexed? ?

  • Dave Elliott: indexing will take however long it is until google bot(other search engines are available) decides to recrawl your site. You can ask it nicely in webmaster tools to submit the page to its index but there is no guarantee that this will speed up the process.

  • Brent Wildman: Get some conversation going on social with links pointing back to those category pages to help speed up the indexing.
  • Ricardo Vidallon: Great idea. The trick is finding time to do this.
  • David Jones: already have plenty of links point to it so I was guessing it would have indexed quickly, the sub domain its on is low PR so I guess that slows it down? I will try some social media links too today. Can anyone advise on the tags also?
