Link manipulation?

Link manipulation?

Probably yes. However if they would recommend using nofollow, would it then be link manipulation?

  • John Pitcher: I have one established blog post on facts about my home town which includes (among other "interesting" facts) famous people associated with that town.

I have a separate established blog post just on famous people associated with my home county, listed in alphabetical order within type (actors, writers etc).

On the "famous people - county" post, I would like to list famous people associated with my home town and then give a "more info" link to my home town post. That would make that listing more comprehensive without duplicate content.

My question: if I suddenly create 20-40 additional links from my county post to my home town post, will Google's algorithms think this is "manipulation" in some way and penalise me?

Note that, if my approach is OK, I would probably do the same for other county posts (film and TV, literary mentions etc) and also link items in these back to the single "interesting facts for town" post (which is a pretty comprehensive post for that town).

I'm not trying to do "seo sculpting" - I want my county post to have a comprehensive list without duplicating content - but don't want to have 20-40 no-follow links all leaking link juice either.
  • Suraj Gadage: +John Pitcher ;at some point we should stop worrying about Google. If I was at your place, I would ask myself, would giving multiple internal links to the same page help fulfill user/visitor requirements? If the answer to the question is yes, then I wouldn't really worry about it.

I would be curious what others have to say about it.
  • John Pitcher: +Suraj Gadage ;From the user's viewpoint - the answer is yes, having lots of additional people listed with links to a more detailed listing (the town page) would work best. That is what I would like to do.

As both pages are high-traffic pages (for my blog), I don't however want to do something that will fall foul of Google's algorithms and stop traffic to them
  • Suraj Gadage: +John Pitcher ; don't worry. Google won't penalize for you this particular situation. As I have said before on this forum that penalty is a mixture of different signals.

  • John Pitcher: +Edwin Jonk ;Sorry, but the link that you give (and the timing) doesn't match my question; have skimmed through the 3hour+ video trying to find it and failed. Do you by any chance have approximate time into video?
