  • David Kutcher: I'd first recommend to redevelop so as not to use frames...

    Then follow these directions: https://support.google.com/sites/answer/99448?hl=en
  • Jam Hassan: Ur provided links not working boss
  • David Kutcher: Works for me...just search for "google sites custom domain" and you'll find the support article.
  • Christina S: Quit while you're ahead. When you point a domain to a Google Site, while the site is accessible at the domain url and everything loks OK and urls change as you navigate, the original Google Site url continues to exist.  ;Hence you now have duplicate content.

    Using masked url forwarding (aka framed url forwarding) you saw what happens, the domain is nothing but a frameset. It will never get indexed by itself since it has no content of its own. Definitely not professional.

    Using Google sites is at best for a hobby site where indexing and ranking in search engines are not important.

    Even Blogger handles custom domains infinitely better - the blogspot url actually gets 301 redirected to the custom domain, unlike the Google SIte utl.

    For all other more serious cases build a site on a proper hosting account and point the domain there.  ;
  • David Kutcher: +Christina S ;you're just wrong. I'm sorry. ;

    When you map a custom domain to a Google Site or a Blogger site, the system also has 301 redirects put in place. Hence removing the "duplicate content" argument. It is not masked. It is set up as a domain on a hosting, just like any other hosting. Your site on your paid hosting is also probably accessible via http://IP-ADDRESS/site and a bunch of other methods as well.

    The frameset, a different story. Mainly because frames are from a different decade.
  • Christina S: There is no 301 redirection from a Google Site url that's been mapped to a custom domain. That is only for Blogger. ;

    Unless it has finally been done in the last week or so that is and I missed the announcement.

    I've been complaining for years about this anomaly.

    My sites on hosting accounts which I control are always canonicalized, and can only be accessed through one canonical form of  ;the domain, with all others 301 redirected to it - for many years now.
  • Christina S: Here's my original rant in the Google Sites forum:

  • Jam Hassan: How to sort out this frame problem ?
  • Christina S: He didn't map the Google SIte to his domain properly. He has to follow the instructions given in Google SItes as per:
    https://support.google.com/sites/answer/99448?hl=en .

    But then keep in mind what I said previously.
