Do subdomains bring any value to SEO performance?

Hi all,
I  am planning to submit my website for  inclusion in Google News.  We already have  a news section on the website but I have been told that creating a subdomain (only dedicated to news) could  increase our chances to get included .  Do you agree with that and finally, do you think that the subdomain can bring any value to our SEO performance?
