How to use the new Google Keyword Planner Tool.

Hey Guys,

I`m looking for some usefull information about using the new Google Keyword Planner Tool.
Right now I`m starting a linkbuilding for my client for about 250 keywords (with longtail I could get from other software). I`m using Keyword Planner Tool and tbh I`m not sure how to use it correct.

Is it better to use Exact Match or Phrase match for those keywords in order to predict how much traffic they can gain? As I understood - Phrase match will count also long tail and other keywords which users can probably use to find an interesting product.

Thanks for any information.

  • Caleb Keiter: Numbers may seem lower than what you are used to in the old keyword tool because the keyword planner shows Exact match search volume. That seemed to confuse people quite a bit when the planner first launched.
  • Gareth Lisle: I could use exact match. However you need to remember that the search numbers that are returned can only be used as a guideline of the actual searches made. Best to use the results to determine which keywords to optimise for and those to forget about for now.
  • ?ukasz Rogala: Thanks +Gareth Lisle ;you made a good point. Unfortunately client wants to know how many searchers will come to his site and see the content he is writing.

"Phrase match" looks nice anyway - isn't it containig all the possible searches for phrase? For example "Inception", "Inception movie" "Inception download movie" etc? Using it we can estimate how many views site can possibly get with key phrases and long tail.

Any other ideas how to estimate it in the correct way?
