Does google places rank for a specific keyword affect website in organic search?

Hi guys it`s me again,

I`m wondering if a website rank well on google places for a specific keyword is that a factor for the website not to show elsewhere on search pages except in far away pages?

Can someone tell me if they experienced it with one of their client or with their own website.

Thanks

  • Zsolt Bégányi: What do you mean "far away pages"? You have a good ranked website in google places, but elsewhere in search place your website's rank is lower?
  • Tony McCreath: Google tends not to show the same url twice on the same result page so a places listing can replace a normal listing.
  • Yasser Mohamed: I have found that when I rank in Google Places then I do not rank high in the SERPS as well. ; I guess that's because Google wants to keep the results varied. ; Not great results for Google if they have a business ranking number one in Adwords, Places and SEPS for a keyword.
  • Guillaume Boucher Bélanger: Exactly +Zsolt Bégányi .
    Ok +Tony McCreath! But do you have exemples or did you actually experienced this?
    Do you have some exemples +Yasser Mohamed ?
  • Zsolt Bégányi: I think there is one thing, if your site good ranked in places. According to me, try to share your website and offer people to +1 your site, and it will help you to bring your site to the top of the search pages. But I'm not expert, but I tried this tactic in the past and the result was good.  ;Good luck! :)
  • Tony McCreath: It's hard to find examples. I've only once ever seen a URL show up in both places and as a normal result.

    As a test I tried something to indicate what happens. You would have to work out your own example because of the localisation of the test.

    If I do a search on chiropractor I get places results for around my location. A client of mine in a nearby location managers to show up in the organic results but is far away enough not to make the places.

    If I refine the search to include the clients location then they do make it into the places result, and their normal organic listing is removed from the results. ;

    Another example.

    For some reason a local search for seo adelaide does not cause places but seo in adelaide does.

    If you do a side by side comparison the domains in the results are very similar, however some have switched to being places entries. ;In fact the places entries has helped a few (like me) get a higher position.  ;
  • Michael Pellman Search Marketer: This is why I love this community, this post is relevant to something that was brought up today. Anyways, I was just going over this with someone this AM. Site was previously listed well in organic for a keyword+location, site is now listed in the top spot in G Places(top 7 before organic). Seems as though the G Places listing pushed the organic listing out. Nice to have confirmation and even better that it now looks like I know what I am talking about:)
  • Zsolt Bégányi: Google places can be very useful if you have a local business, its fact.:) Thats why I ;recommend it but where I live, business owners cant understand this. This is tipically hungarian philosofy, I think:S
  • Michael Pellman Search Marketer: +Zsolt Bégányi ;I got a simple fix for this, load up a browser, search for their business type plus location, show them how their competitors are appearing and they are not. Voila, SOLD!
  • Zsolt Bégányi: +Michael Pellman Search Marketer ;Thanks for your advice! I will do it anyway! :)
