How to set query parameter when setting up site search?

Really dumb question here. If I am setting up site search in Google Analytics and if this is how my URL shows up for the search "fodo" http://www.example.com/search?q=fodo then what should my query parameter when setting up site search. Should it be just "q" or should it be "search?q="

  • Andy Wigglesworth: I believe it's just q ! (although I am pretty stupid)
  • Dave Elliott: yeah it is just 'q' never put the = in.
  • Collin Davis: +Dave Elliott +Andy Wigglesworth is there a rule like just have the first letter after the question mark as your search operator?
  • Andy Wigglesworth: No idea, sorry. ;
  • Dave Elliott: no it depends on your site. it can be anything. Just run a search on your site and see what url gets given.  ;It could be something like 'search' or 'query' or 'q' or 's'. ;
