  • Victor Castillejos: My dumb question of the week…
    What would be a normal percentage for a website in Google Web Master Tools for impressions/clicks?
  • Brent Wildman: Depends on your industry, position & keyword.
  • Victor Castillejos: +Brent Wildman ;Hello,

    But with better position you get more impressions right? Lets say that the first 10 results get the same impressions, (thinking that they are always the same) naturally the first places take more clicks..

    If you have a website with 12,000 impressions per month and just 5 clicks, I would say there is something wrong.. or the same website getting 10,000 clicks.. that also doesn't make sense…
    There is no a normal percentage?
  • Brent Wildman: +Victor Castillejos ;I don't put too much stock into what Webmaster Tools says. Their numbers are rough estimates at best and should be treated as such. ;

    That being said, generally speaking, the #1 spot usually gets 30-40% CTR if I remember correctly.

    So yes, if you're seeing gaps like that something might be wrong, or Google is just not showing the whole picture.
  • Dave Elliott: Ive seen everything from 18% to 45% written as an average for #1 in google. I think it very much depends on the quality of the search term and the serp page that gets delivered.

  • José Manuel Gilpérez: The numbers I have in mind are about a 35% for #1 in Google search to go exponentially down to about a 2% for #10. For keywords you have checked to be in those positions, you should expect the same ratio, but in my case never find this result even for first position keywords. With changes in title and description you could modify this value to get closer to the maximum expected. Of course we have deviations depending on the competitors and even other contents Google shows in the results page.
  • Frank Vitetta: I never seen reliable results from webmaster tools on this. Don't forget you get all sort of rankings including images!
