Is it tough to do SEO for a Real Estate site?

Is it really tough to do SEO for Real Estate site?

I`m asking because, soon i`ll be taking one of the real estate client & i`ll be working alone on it. Most of my friends don`t take real estate because they think it is really hard to do SEO for them. Their keywords are highly competitive & you won`t achieve rankings atleast for a year or so, unless the keyword is long tail.

Has anyone here done SEO for any real estate site? Please let me know. I don`t want to make wrong decision.

P.S the site is in total flash, i told client to make alternate version in html but he don`t want to do. What should i do?

  • S?awomir Zdunek: If he doesn't want to follow your advice, I would really think it over if it is worth taking on this client. To my mind you are going to have a really hard time with this client. He can't expect good results if he doesn't trust you and your knowledge on SEO.
  • Richard Hearne: Jazus, if client refuses to provide at least an HTML alternative then you need to run.

You don't go into a gunfight carrying only a knife...
  • Hyderali Shaikh: But still if suppose the client got ready for making an alternate version of the site in html then what?
  • Clement Low: Agree with +Richard Hearne ; ; You are going to have a super hard time ranking a flash sites IMO.

If your client willing to make charges and the price is right go for it then.
  • June M: Flash & Real Estate??? Run or require a redesign ... Yes real estate is very competitive... If prospective client is willing to 1. proactively participate ... aka contribute unique content ; and localized information
    2. Keep their listings fresh
    3. Has a healthy advertising budget for localized marketing
    4. Is tied into MLS subscription that you can draw into site
    5. ; Is willing to use and produce media : aka video, images etc.
    6. Has realistic expectations given competitive landscape. aka realizes its a long distance vs. sprint effort.
    7. Get rid of flash.
    8. Willing to commit to at least 6 to 12 month ongoing effort

If they meet the above and have what you value for your time and services... than go for it..... if not........ than say, "Im sorry but.... I'd rather do it right vs. take your money
  • Tim Capper: I concur with all above.

    No HTML - walk
Not willing to take your advice - walk

Apart from those 2 sticking points, yes is is competative but it is do-able.

I worked for a small estate agent a couple of years back - they did not cover a huge area, but large enough to have the big boys dominating the serps.

    What we did.

With every new property we went out and created Video of the street - added to youtube channel - added to property listing.

We added timelines to the property listing.

7am - noise, activity, sun direction
    12 noon
    5pm
    10pm

We added a comprehensive history of the surrounding area / village news and info

We added crime figures for the street and area

We added insurance figures for the street based on home contents & vehicle

Basically we built up such authority on a particular street and village we started to outrank the big boys.

Sadly the owner died in a car accident and the site expired.
  • Hyderali Shaikh: Thanks +Tim Capper ;that was really some nice suggestion. Sorry to hear about your client.
  • Jim Munro: KGB? :)
  • S?awomir Zdunek: +Jim Munro ;And that's what they call: a fierce competition ! What a world !
  • Tim Capper: It was a long time ago +Hyderali Shaikh ; and it may well have been +Jim Munro ;but i think its called the FSB now ... lol
  • Jim Munro: Well, I did not know that but if anyone would know about what's going on in Russia, it would be Tim Capper. :)
