  • Federico Sasso: Hi. Simply put: no.
    Not since the EMD algo update was released by Google (I'm not sure about other search engines), they lost the free boost they had.
  • Jon Dunn: Emd's still rank if you build quality content and gain good links but as +Federico Sasso said, the boost is gone...
  • Ovais Ehsan: Yes, EMDs still can rank high in Google as long as you treat keyword domains as a properly maintained & managed website (and not just a mini site with low profile content).

    I've been hearing about this misconception a lot that Google update has completely made EMDs vanished. No so true though, search any key phrase with 3+ exact terms and you'll get the idea.
  • Nathaniell Brenes: I still see a lot of EMDs rank, and have one or two that rank for me. I would not base an entire campaign on it; I think Google will only take further action on stuff like this in the future.

    But how can they put a complete stop to EMDs? They make sense, don't they? Not everyone's got an awesome brand name.
  • Jon Dunn: Emd update targeted low quality emd's not every emd domain out there (think thin content affiliate site with low level ibl's)

    Google will not be targeting all emd's in the future +Nathaniell Brenes - why would they? Keyword domains make sense- always have done and always will. Yes Google are pushing brands in the serp's at the mo, and brands dont tend to be kws, but thst doesn't mean theres no place for kw domains.
  • Nathaniell Brenes: +Jon Dunn ;Sorry, didn't mean it THAT way. I just meant that EMDs are going to be in their crosshairs all the time because they are used more often as spammy sites versus brands. I don't mean that all EMDs are spam, or that they would focus on EMDs versus other types of low quality sites. I DO mean that there will probably be futher refinements to how they deal with them in the future.
  • Clement Low: Google is going after the way links are build. Not at EDMs. Its just that most edm are build based on think site and load of rubbish.
  • Nathaniell Brenes: +Clement Low ;I agree that they're targeting linkbuilding in general, but I'm pretty sure that part of one of those recent updates was specifically targeting EMDs. Am I wrong? ;
  • S?awomir Zdunek: They can rank higher if they have higher quality content, but they haven't got any ranking boost for having the keywords in their name. I guess these days are gone.
  • Clement Low: +Nathaniell Brenes We can't be sure .. that's for sure. Anyway EMD is pretty much a subject close to my heart.

    I am going to do a mini case study on this using a EMD and non EMD domain (new) and build a simple site around the same name/topic and see how do they compare in terms of ranking.
