Jim Munro: I'm not sure that I agree with all of +Annabel Hodges ;points but it's a good read.
I remember using the chip and pin in 2007 to be certain and think it might have been earlier.
I did not know there was a skills shortage but people regularly send me good resumes so maybe it's a Sydney thing. Annabel correctly points out the tyranny of distance here but most of our population lives within a 100KM strip along 2500 KM of our east coast. ; The criticism of the NBN is valid but I think that will get on track again now that Rudd is back on deck. It started out as his baby.
I would not judge our delivery infrastructure on the basis of one store, we are not starved for choice here.
Overall it's a good read though. :)
Chris Butterworth: I think the point about the postal service is spot on. I remember when I was in the UK 3-4 years ago now, I could order something online and have it their the next day with free shipping.
That's still along way off, and I'm not sure if it's even something that will ever be possible here due to the distances involved. It's certainly an issue for some of my clients, who can't avoid high shipping prices and don't have the volume to get a better deal with couriers.
The NBN is probably the least concern for small businesses. ;And taking time with long term infrastructure can only be a good thing. I might be going of topic a bit here, but look at Britain's rail network. One of the first built and now the least easy to update or bring into line with modern standards. ;
