I had a pure spam penalty for a client removed by Google recently.

I had a pure spam penalty for a client removed by Google recently. Has anyone also removed this type of penalty? If so did you or did you not notice any changes afterwards? The changes could be traffic, keyword rankings, etc.

Edwin Jonk: What do you mean by a "pure spam penalty"? That is, there are many penalties and it does depend which on which penalty. For example, if you where hacked by a pharma-hack you will get all the traffic back once you resolved the hack. If you had an unnatural link penalty than your ranking will probably be lower than before the penalty.
