  • Leon Bailey: Would advertising on a website with a page rank of 2 be wise or just a waste of money? It's related to my business niche.
  • Peter Nikolow: Everything dependent from traffic sources and convertions.

    I think yes.

I'm not trying to do that. I am looking to join vendor lists of wedding sites and was just curious.
  • Pe lagic: +Leon Bailey, good to hear, though you did specifically mention page rank and money in your question so one might assume that your intention was to purchase links not for the potential value of traffic generated by them, but with the sole purpose of gaining PR to your site ?
  • Leon Bailey: +Pe lagic
No, not looking to gain PR rank. I am generally interested in advertising on some sites, but not sure if their PR would be a benefit at all.
  • Peter Nikolow: +Leon Bailey ;just request links to be nofollow and you shouldn't have issues with Google. If you they put this - sorry but no benefits for you EXCEPT traffic source.

Since your niche is unique you can get benefits as leads for example.
  • Leon Bailey: +Peter Nikolow
That is great to know and yes, leads is what I want! :)

So a DoFollow would be bad?
  • Jim Munro: All advertising links should be nofollowed. That much I know. :)
  • Leon Bailey: +Jim Munro
    Thank you!

The cuetimes listed on this page are functional while the live broadcast continues and also once Youtube has finished processing the public broadcast. Processing time varies between 6-24 hours. During this period the clip is viewable in full but the cuetimes cannot be relied on.
  • Greg Kristan: If the referral site is related to your business that can pass users to your site then yes! I would not worry much about the PageRank
  • Devin Peterson: Eh, I know everyone is saying NoFollow, but I'd still try to get a Follow link if you can.
  • Jim Munro: That would be a recipe for disaster, +Devin Peterson ;, sorry mate.

The message on advertising links is clear and unambiguous. It's OK to buy advertising links but they must be nofollowed.
  • Devin Peterson: +Jim Munro ;From the perspective of the website displaying the advertisement, I would  ;certainly recommend nofollow. But ;
i don't see how a legitimate and relevant site pointing a link (whether text, banner, sitewide, isolated, etc..) to the advertisers site could possibly be a bad thing (for the advertiser) just because it's a follow link.
  • Jim Munro: I think you might be misunderstanding what is being proposed here, mate. Leon wants to buy an advertisement on another site which means a link pointing back to his site. If it's a paid link, both the advertiser and the buyer are likely to be impacted if the link is not nofollowed.
  • Devin Peterson: I was referring to the buyer as the advertiser. I understand what Google's guideline is, I read their link scheme article about a hundred times and it baffles me how they could tell if a strategically placed paid link is for the sole purposing of 'passing page rank', or if a link is even 'paid' for that matter. Without being able to determine that, there should not be a penalty. Jim, this is a confusing subject for me, my apologies if my thoughts seem foolish. I try to understand what is capable algorithmically, I have a strong background in computational physics (as a graduate in the field of theoretical physics) and I can't figure out for the life of me HOW they would be able to enforce these 'policies' if the links are strategically utilized. I wouldn't mind discussing this less publicly, cuz I know I could potentially set off a wave of backlash on these thoughts.
  • Jim Munro: The manual penalty system is fed by dobbers.

Anything works until it is successful but if a set of paid links begin to impact a competitor, it's likely that breaches will be reported.
  • Devin Peterson: Oh. So tattletales could affect the impact of such links? btw, I'm Scottish. ;http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/dobber lol
  • Jim Munro: Sorry, no, nothing to do with being a Scot. :)

"Dobber = (Australia, UK, derogatory) One who dobs (informs against or implicates to authority)."
  • Devin Peterson: got ya :)
  • Leon Bailey: Well I signed up with the site. Just got to wait until they contact me back. They will make a page profiling my website under their vendor list. I will make sure to tell them to make the link NoFollow (if they know how to do that). I don't want to get penalized lol.
