Dumb SEO Questions

Does it matter what I call the `Home` page?

Hi folks here`s my dumb SEO question of the day:

When building a site in Wordpress I create a template for the home page and the content for the home page appears as a widget, along with everything else (sliders, forms etc).

The address is obviously going to be: www.domainname.co.uk
The home page appears in the navigation as "Home" although the page title can actually be anything.

And that is the question, even though that pages` content will only appear as the domain name, where any other page will have the address and title like: www.domainname.co.uk/my-optimised-page.

Does it matter what I call the `Home` page, as it`s title will never be seen, or is there some benefit to optimising that particular page`s title??

  • Tony Kelly: If your home page is always just going to be your www.domain.co.uk then there's not going to be much benefit changing it to anything else.
If you did change it you may have a home page for your domain.co.uk but the 'Home' button on your menu may link to domain.co.uk/changed-page-title which could cause a fair bit of confusion for users.
Probably best to leave your homepage as it is and obviously optimise the title tag, meta desc, h1, etc as you would normally for any other page.
    Hope that helps!
