Ehtesham Shaikh: How to get word press blog indexed in Google? Thanks
Andy Wigglesworth: Make this is NOT ticked in the admin area - ;Discourage search engines from indexing this site.
Make sure you are not blocking anything in Robots.txt
Make sure you haven't put anything like noindex in the header part of your website.
Submit it to Google Webmaster Tools, using the Fetch thingy.
Wait a couple of days.
Adam Cirlincione: Of course that is assuming you have no content you dont want to be crawled. There are some areas you still might want to be blocking in robots, right Andy? :)
Andy Wigglesworth: Aye, true, I was generalising and I should'nt assume!
Ehtesham Shaikh: Thanks +Andy Wigglesworth +Peter Nikolow ;I will use but within how many days(approx) would the blog get indexed.
John Coleman: If you have a webmaster tools account for the blog then you should submit an xml sitemap and then use the fetch feature like +Andy Wigglesworth ;has stated is probably the best option ;
Ehtesham Shaikh: Thanks +Peter Nikolow ;I saw, first we need to download right? If not please provide me with the link please.
Sajjad c: use all in SEO pack http://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
Bob Reno: Adding it to your Google Webmaster Tools account is also a good idea, if you haven't already done so.
Matt Storms: Just make sure that box is not ticked. Then submit your sitemap to Google Webmaster tools. Since you are on wordpress please make sure your site is updated at all times to prevent your site from being hacked.
Ehtesham Shaikh: Thanks +Adam Cirlincione ;+Andy Wigglesworth ;+John Coleman ;+Sajjad c ;+Bob Reno ;+Matt Storms ;for your responses, I have submitted my sitemap in GWT.
Matt Storms: Use Fetch as Googlebot and then give it a week or two.
Chris Hutchings: Once you have followed the guidance above, if it still does not work, you might also need to check that your domain was not penalised in a previous lifetime. I had a client once who built a site out and whatever he did, Google would not index it. When I explored it, the domain had previously been used for spam and he didn't know. You can check https://archive.org/ in the first instance.
Bob Reno: Great suggestion Chris! I once had a client who got into a dispute with the original web designer and, uh, "forgot" to change the password on his site. The jilted firm went in and added a bunch of "do not index" code to the entire site so that it looked fine from outside, but not when you got under the hood. What a mess!
