  • Girish Kapoor: Should I use different Analytics Tracking for blog.domain.com and domain.com

I've a website example.com and now I've setup a blog on subdomain blog.example.com, now, I'm confused that if I should different tracking code for both the above. And if I should use the same for Google Analytics and Webmaster, how do I list my sitemap.xml for my subdomain blog.
    I'm using WordPress for both.
  • David Rosam: I guess my answer is a question.

Why put the blog on a subdomain?
  • Girish Kapoor: +David Rosam i am not saying for blog only it's apply on all types of subdomain....
  • Dave Elliott: i'd keep them all on the same property but create some segments for the sub domains and main site etc. That way you can get data and present it any way the client likes and change it easily.

if you use different properties it is harder to recombine them in the future and harder to compare the sub domains with the main domain and stuff.

I'm kinda loving segments at the moment though.
  • Rahul Chauhan: use different tracking code for both, as per my personal experience currently I am working with same sort of project, and used different tracking code for both.
For subdomain sitemap keep only the internal links of the subdomain, you can also use different webmaster code as well.
Fortunately My website is also a wordpress website.

  • Tony McCreath: I've not watched the video yet but I would use the same profile then set up extra views for each sub domain. This can be done by adding a filter on the Hostname parameter. This lets you quickly view and play with subdomain only info

+Dave Elliott s suggestion of setting up segments is great. With that you can view subdomain info on the same charts.
