Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Neil Forrest on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 11/07/2013).

Are Google letting through exact match domains (EMD) for lower volume searches?

Question and An Observation. Exact Match Domains in my industry area are just as prevalent as 12 months ago.  My industry being printing services for business.

If we are looking at a product related search, for example `Presentation Folder Printing`, Google will present some pretty poor results in terms of site quality, content, frequency of update, zero social etc.

It is as if Goggle are paying far less attention to the lower volume searches. BUT an algorithm is an algorithm. It shouldnt discriminate should it?

My theory - Unpopular Search = Let`s use one of the old servers for that.... I might buy an 2nd hand Exact Match domain to test the hypothesis...

  • Michael Chapman: Some really big and popular searches are manually moderated. ;

    As for EMD's:

    So EMD's don't work as much as they used to I'm seeing this pretty much everywhere, it's pretty likely that nobody has put particularly good attention into ranking for 'Presentation Folder Printing' hence the rubbish looking results.

    Having said that there's a few niche's I've been looking at that are ranking awful sites over great ones when that's the case there is almost always some trick that your missing or just 'one of those things'.
  • Reginald Chan: Actually this makes sense +Neil Forrest . I think the value of EMD has gone down BUT not entirely. Using your plan could work as I see lots of potential in it. I could be wrong though but just saying :)
  • Ranu Jain: EMD update was basically for low-quality exact-match domains in search results.I too would say that the importance of EMD has not gone completely but yes it definitely affected the poor quality sites. Till the time you offer quality and unique content, I think there should be any problem.
