Would you switch an established, well ranked site to SSL?

Hi all,

I would like to hear some feedback/experiences from people about switching an established, well ranked site to SSL.
I would like to end up with a site that by default is https. What would be the best way to do this? Should I change my canonicals first, than do 301`s to the https url? Any experience on what that does to ranking etc?
Any other drawbacks of switching to ssl??

  • Michiel Kikkert: No one??
  • Ahmed Sherbi: I start my site with SSL but i think when you work the links didnt change you can use it http & https thy count the rank as the same
  • Ahmed Sherbi: I got 4 pagerank befor but i dont knew why google update it and make it 2 again
  • Michiel Kikkert: +Ahmed Sherbi - thanks for your reply. I do know that from a SOP/CORS perpective, http and https links are actually seen as different domains. Do you have some backup from google or so that makes you say that they Are considered the same url's to google?
  • Ahmed Sherbi: +Michiel Kikkert ; No but I Use it as https when I have to make some backlinks as http .... another thing when you try to check your page rank you most check it as http ( http://www.prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php ) in the same time you got the same page rank on (https) this is number 1 .... second when you use a short links the search engine didn't use it as short link or account it as backlink for your site. my I'm not experience in SEO but that what I see when I make some optimize to my site
  • Michiel Kikkert: Thanks +Ahmed Sherbi for your feedback so far!
