Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Ed Barnat on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 03/02/2014).

I seem to have acquired two Google+ pages for my small business.

Not sure this is the right place to ask this question so if not please let me know where I should.

I seem to have acquired two Google+ pages for my small business;  +AmGeek and +AmGeekLatham. The first I created about a year ago and the second seems to have been created by Google when they converted my years old Google Places listing several months ago. The second is also the one which Google now considers verified.

Is it OK for me to have both?

If not, I would really prefer the first (+AmGeek) to be my active listing, what should I do?

If it is OK should I do anything to convert the first to a different type (perhaps Brand) of listing??

  • SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing: Both are different one is a page and the other is a map. Its good to keep both as long as you keep updating them

  • Yasser Mohamed: The same thing has happened to me - a new business page created by Google appeared this week. ; I read somewhere in another community that you should contact Google and ask them to merge the 2, but do not delete the new one as it will also delete your places listing.
  • SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing: Merging is good option however, if you have 1 page and a map it will help you a lot to engage people and also help in keywords searching. The page can be a rel=publisher and the map can also be added to your site.
  • Yasser Mohamed: I don't think one of mine is a map - it seems to be just another business page. ;
  • SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing: Then you could use one for embedding and the other one for rel=publisher
  • SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing: Make people managers of the page and help them spread it

    Thank you both for your replies. ;

    Mine both seem to be business pages each have maps, hours and all. I cannot, however, edit the “about” section of the first (+amgeek). There is a banner on top saying it has been marked as a duplicate of another, probably the one Googel made; +amgeeklatham which is now verified and editable. I do not want to loose either, especially the first. I possible, I think, I would like to change it from a business page to a brand or other type of page so I can preserve the link “+amgeek”.
  • Yasser Mohamed: You can ask Google to merge the two pages via the Places for Business help section - I have just done this with my duplicate pages.
  • Ed Barnat: And did you get to keep both pages?
  • Yasser Mohamed: I just sent my request through a couple of days ago so I am still waiting for a response. One of my pages is verified and full of content, reviews, +1's etc. the other is completely blank other than the details Google put on there. ; I don't need 2 pages butI am concerned that ; if I delete the new one it might delete my places/maps listing as well, so merging is the best option - I will let you know what happens. ; You could also post your question in the Google help forum or look there for an answer.
  • SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing: +Ed Barnat ;if you could come on a Team Viewer session, we could show a lot more that can be achieved with the page and map that you have. I had a look at it and a little twist in the settings and posting formats can help you achieve the purpose. Dont worry, we do it out of passion not for money. :) ;
  • Ed Barnat: +Yasser Mohamed ;I wouldn't have thought I needed the second page either - until Google gave it to me. Initially, I just wanted to save the original, it has the better (shorter) name. Now,  ;however, that I have had time to consider the possibilities having the two might offer I am starting to want the second one as well.

    Please do keep me posted on your progress.
  • Ed Barnat: +SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing ;Do tell me more.
  • SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing: +Ed Barnat I have something's to say but moreover I have things to show which is why I wanted you and +Yasser Mohamed to have a team meeting with me so we could look into the possibilities of how we could use the mystery called #google for our benefits.
  • SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing: It can be integrated with your website and boost your ranking as we tend to use google searches but not too keen on the services it has to offer. Once you 'see' how #googleproducts can be used for businesses,you would know the magic behind it. Why do we run behind the algorithms when we can just do #ethicalseo and reap the benefits.
  • SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing: Logic can be explained on this forum but practical solutions are better when seen :)
  • Ed Barnat: +SEO to Grow - Conceptual Web Designing ;Live chat face to face is usually a better alternative. Look forward to meeting you both.
