How to link a manufacturer to small distributor sites?

So looking to develop a tactic to link a manufacturer to small distributor sites and allow a single page on the manufacturer URL, but still allow the smaller sites to develop individual rankings for their own pages on key phrases without battling against the manufacturer for those same terms. Thinking subdomains are the way to go, but still feel the subdomains will battle the local distributorships unfairly. Thoughts??
