Dumb SEO Questions

Will Google penalize my website for having this other content?

Hi,

Please can you help me! I own a business brightonbiketour dot com that offers tourists guided sightseeing cycling tours around the city of Brighton, UK. I want to start an index on my website called "Whats on Brighton" an insider guide to Brighton & Hove.

I am concerned that by creating this index my website content of Brighton bike tours may be diluted in Google`s eyes. I have been advised by a friend that maybe i should create a bike index on local cycle shops and activities in my area. The thing is that toursists are my customers and they will find information on local hotels and restaurants and things to do, much more useful than information on local bike shops and events.

What can you advise please.
will Google penalize my website for having this other content. (on each index page will still be links to Brighton bike tour pages.

What do you think?

Thank you
Carlo

  • Andy Wigglesworth: Hi Carlo

    Would you mind reposting your question without the link to your website - it's part of the rules of the community - on the right hand side of the page.

    You can do something like www dot brightonbiketour dot com if you wish to display your url.

    I'll remove this post in 5 mins - thanks in advance.
  • Carlo Raffa: Sorry Andy, Thank you
  • Andy Wigglesworth: Brilliant, thanks +Carlo Raffa ;- ;
  • Sarah Summers: I have done something similar with my site referencing local hotels and bars if note by postcode as it is genuinely useful to my visitors. I think you can write what you like and your readers will vote with their clicks, if it's tumbleweed then your wasting your time. If they love it and spend time on it I can't see you being penalised. Great content engages, whether you write about mountains, yoghurt or spiders. Just my 2p and it doesn't make it fact x
  • Carlo Raffa: Thank you Sarah that is very encouraging can I take a look at your website please how has the index worked for you
  • Sarah Summers: I won't post a linky as I'll fall prey to the same as you. You'll find my site referenced in some of my posts you are looking for "review bars and hotels" in the navigation x
  • Carlo Raffa: Lol yes of course. Thank you
  • Andy Wigglesworth: I don't think it's so much of a problem posting a web address if you are helping someone.

    I think the problem we have as a community is that it can get out of hand when people post a question, drop numerous links to something/some service/self promotion (obviously not this one, and Carlo was cool to change his post) it saves the moderators saying 'x' person can do this, or that person can't - so we simply ask when posting a question, no live links are given.

    I hope to think we are laid back bunch of people :)
  • Carlo Raffa: I completly understand Andy thanks I'm still waiting for an absolute anser before I give myself all this work
  • Sarah Summers: Ok thanks +Andy Wigglesworth x
  • Carlo Raffa: Nice website Sarah, have you seen any benefits from your "review bars and hotels" section?
  • Ranu Jain: I agree with Sarah here. ;

    Content is one of the significant factors in the ranking a site and makes it worthy of a search result position. You need lots and lots of relevant, useful content on your pages. ;

    So, no harm in adding more content. It for sure won't dilute the importance of your site.
  • Carlo Raffa: Ok thanks great thank you ranu and thank you sarah and andy. I will start today
