Dave Elliott: It will make a huge difference I reccomend for site speed stuff. Good free service and it explains everything well and even gives you the optimised images to download

Ryan Cramer: The Algorithm is always being enhanced for the user. Considering that over half of the internet is being downloaded on smartphones now, page speed is more important than ever before (NOTE: not saying it is the most important thing)
If you are using Google Chrome, make sure you have the PageSpeed extension installed. After running the analysis (F12->PageSpeed->Analyze) look for the "Optimize Images" group. ;It will give you the optimized image by clicking on "See optimized content".
I prefer this method over a 3rd party program as it ensures you have images that Google recognizes as optimized - by their standards, even though a product like gtmetrix (as recommended by ) may provide an even more optimized image)
