I would like to know what are backlinks? Is the internal linking called backlinks or links we post on social networking sites?

Hi everyone. I would like to know what are backlinks? Is the internal linking called backlinks or links we post on social networking sites? Or anything which leads to my site is called backlinks. I am confused with this term and have seen lot of fellow bloggers using this term. I would appreciate any help. :)?

Evgenii Neumerzhitckii: Hi, any web link to your site is considered a backlink except internal links. By internal links I mean the links that are on your site. Links to your sites from social sites are also backlinks.

Edwin Jonk: Yes but most links from social media are nofollow, meaning that they aren't in the link graph.
Ritu Ahuja: +Edwin Jonk it would be great if you please elaborate a little. Didn't get it. They are not called backlinks and what is the link graph?
