Should move all the sites to HTTPS, since this is a ranking signal now?

Whether we should move all the sites to HTTPS now, regardless if these are E-commerce or not since this is a ranking signal now?

  • Blade S: Even e-commerce sites should be changed to https.
  • Jim Munro: I don't think so + ;. They specifically say that it's a weak ranking signal and there are hundreds of inputs, maybe thousands, who knows? Regardless there are plenty of things that should be optimised before this. I am not an expert though so your mileage may vary. :)
  • Hardial Singh: Ya + there are hundreds of other factors but like Google moved onto HTTPS it looks like it's going to be some major ranking signal in coming days

  • Ryan Cramer: Considering how the network layer of SSL works with the https protocol, I am hesitant at going the https route. Besides being a larger packet size which affects page speeds, and penalties for mixed http and https on https sites, the reason for using https is to have the information secured.  ;From a customer perspective as well as a former IT security specialist, I raise suspicion about the move to https.  ;From an SEO perspective, I wonder if the benefits of going https conflicts with other aspects of the site's SEO efforts.
