How to handle wordpress spammy links

My wordpress blog receives spam.  Instead of deleting them, I EDIT THEM and write things that are relevant.  I then approve them.

Can this hurt me SEO wise?  I delete their website link and edit their name.

Should I also delete their email address?  Will doing any if this hurt me seo wise?

The morality of this doesn`t bother me.  I am strictly asking about SEO.  Will it hurt me SEO wise?

Is here IP address or email address a red flag for google?

  • Marcus Wong: that sounds like a lot of work for little to no payoff. with no links in the comments, the only possible way which these comments can actually harm you is if they mess up the keyword density of your article..... if you are one who pays attention to that. ;

    though if you really want comments on your blog, there are Fiverr gigs that post relevant comments. ;
  • Krish Purnawarman: I reckon, what you're doing defeats the purpose of the engagement part in any blog post. But then again its spam..If it was just a few then I would not worry about it. But if it starts to be quite a hands-full then better to delete. Also gotta do something about the level of spam. A stronger capcha codes perhaps? This is just my 2 cents worth..
