Have you marked breadcrumbs with micro data?

Hey Everyone!

Has anyone marked up their breadcrumbs with micro data?

If so did you notice anything change (like rankings, traffic, etc) to the site?

I never knew you could mark up breadcrumbs on a site

Thanks!

  • Marcus Wong: i would love to see a case study for this. I use Yoast's Wordpress SEO for Breadcrumbs with markup. Apparently it helps with CTR, though I don't have hard data to prove it. ;
  • Greg Kristan: +Marcus Wong same Marcus. ;I brought this up at work and I was asked if I saw any difference . I have looked all over the web and can not find this.

    In SEO best practices I am sure it should help, but how much is the question
  • Marcus Wong: well if it costs close to nothing to implement, the ROI must be crazy good, even if actual returns is minimal.
  • Greg Kristan: +Marcus Wong I guess that is a good point. I was just curious if others saw a negative ;effect in rankings by ;marking up their breadcrumbs ;
  • Mach Page Speed: +Greg Kristan I have found using markup including breadcrumbs has help one of my sites tremendously. Page 10 to 2 in 4 weeks. Added no new content. ...just markup. Do not use schema.org for breadcrumbs though. Do not show in serps.
  • Greg Kristan: +Mach Page Speed thanks for the ;insight! Did you do that as a site overhaul change or did you do that as an A/B test?

    Also I was going to mark up the breadcrumbs with Google Webmaster Tools Structured Data, is that fine? ;
  • Mach Page Speed: +Greg Kristan I will send you an example in a little bit.

    Originally when I started overhauling the site the client was not even in the top 25 pages of the serps. I cleaned it up focused on page speed and structured markup. Week 1 page 10. Week 5 page 2. Week 6 page 1. Never added any new content...just structure and speed.
  • Mach Page Speed: +Greg Kristan ;here is an example of breadcrumb navigation

    <div id=nav itemscope itemtype=http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb>
    <meta content=//mydomain.com/sevices itemprop=url>
    <meta itemprop=title content=Services>

    <div itemscope itemprop=child itemtype=http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb>
    <a href=//mydomain.com/service/carpet-cleaning itemprop=url>
    <span itemprop=title><strong>Carpet Cleaning</strong></span></a>
    </div>

    </div>

    I have found schema.org's version does not work yet, which they are aware of.

    Hope that helps.
