  • Steven Ciccantelli: As I struggle up the slippery slope of SEO I now find myself lost in an anchor cloud.Which is what please?
  • Tony McCreath: An anchor is spot you mark on a page so that you can send people directly to that spot. An in page link.

    E.g. this marks an anchor:

    <a name="sectionA" ></a>

    Then you can create a link to that spot like this:

    <a href="#sectionA">link to Section A</a>

    Note the hash in the link.

    A cloud is a bunch of links grouped together.

  • Steven Ciccantelli: +Tony McCreath OK thanks so a keyword can be an anchor but not all anchors are Keywords?
  • Tony McCreath: They may be referring to normal links as anchors as they are built with the anchor tag.

    They can contain words which become the link text. And link text may contain keywords.

    So, you can use keywords in an anchor, but it's not compulsory.

    Hope you get an idea about Anchor text. If you want to have deeper insights,  ;refer to this link: ;

  • Steven Ciccantelli: +Ranu Jain Hi will read the link now and thanks.Next up what the heck is a Dublin core and is it similar to the metadata stuff on WMT please?
  • Tony McCreath: Dublin core is like extended meta data to indicate extra document information like the creator. ;

    It relates more the the Structured Data section of GWT but I'm not sure how much of the ;Dublin core stuff is used.

    I suggest you look into ;Structured Data types such as schema.org (for Search Engines), open graph (for Facebook) and Twitter cards. They have more value for you than ;Dublin core.
  • Steven Ciccantelli: +Tony McCreath I have tried the structured data and schema but not so sure if I have been successful.I will look into Twitter cards but I really have been busy reading what I can understand here in the G+ communities.
    I am getting addicted to SEO after some costly mistakes so just trying to glean what I can.I cannot remember the last time I was on FB but will also look into open graph.Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
  • Omkar Bhandare: How does the ranking gets affected by creating anchor cloud?
  • Jim Munro: I am not an expert but apparently googlebot regards tag clouds as spammy, Omkar. Unless you have other quality content to include on the same page as well, I would not use it.
