Is it a good idea or bad idea to use rel="author" and rel="publisher" together?

Hi folks! Here`s my dumb question of the day: is it a good idea or bad idea to use rel="author" and rel="publisher" together? I recently viewed the source code for a website who has done this. I know to use "author" for personal authorship and "publisher" for a company`s authorship, but is using them together considered to be good practice, or pushing the boundaries thereof?
Thanks in advance!

  • Mike Stetzer: I asked a similar question a few weeks back. I don't think it's bad to use both, as long as you're using authorship where it's appropriate. ;

    When I use Google's Structured Data Testing Tool and put in our company's URL, the image that is displayed is our company's google+ page image, not the authorship. I found that pretty interesting.
  • Masatake Wasa: They denote distinct relationships between Google+ entities and the web page / site, so using them both on the same page can be a good thing. You might want to read something like http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2013/08/relauthor-frequently-asked-advanced.html for further information.
  • Melissa Klaver: Thank you +Mike Stetzer  ;and +Masatake Wasa  ;for the info! I figured it wasn't necessarily a bad practice, to show your own authorship and affiliation with the company. ;
  • Sitegains: I'd be interested to hear the opinion of someone like +Mark Traphagen on this matter...
  • Mark Traphagen: Yes, it's not only fine, it's encouraged. Authorship is for verifying the content of individual authors on your site, and rel="publisher" is for verifying the official connection between your brand's official site and it's Google+ Page.

  • Sitegains: Nice one +Mark Traphagen , thanks for clarifying.
