  • Guillaume Boucher Bélanger: Hello evryone,

    I'm lookin for some advise from you guys! I'm going to create a new blog for my new website and I was wondering if that was better if I create a blog on an other URL or on the same URL.

    Tell me what you think!
  • Caleb Keiter: If you create the blog as a subdirectory of your own site, i.e. example.com/blog , all of that content and subsequent links, shares, etc. will be attributed to your main site and increase its domain authority. ;
  • Luke Ciciliano: +Caleb Keiter  ;is correct +Guillaume Boucher Bélanger . If you create a blog somewhere else and then link your site to it then you don't have a blog for your website. You simply have an external site that your current site is linking to and this is no different than linking to any other random site. ;
  • Guillaume Boucher Bélanger: Thanks for your insights +Caleb Keiter and +Luke Ciciliano ! Looking for other ones too!
  • A Cirlincione: Yes its better to have it on your domain to build the authority there as opposed to another location
  • Tim Quin: I'd agree with the guys above but I've also seen businesses get some great traffic by setting up an independent blog on a separate domain. By not affiliating your business directly to the blog you can often create an impartial place where subscribers are much more open about their views on your industry and the players within it (including you). This can really help you to understand what your customers want and allow you to make positive changes to your sales and marketing strategy. It can also give you a valuable insight on how to shape your site's integrated blog in order to better captivate your audience.
  • Sabeeh ul Hassan: Creating blog within your website (as subdomain of your website i.e domain.com/blog or blog.domain.com ) would be more beneficial for you. You can make your internal linking structure strong through its content which will help you to gain domain authority. ;
  • Guillaume Boucher Bélanger: which one would you recommand? a subdomain like this http://blog.domain.com or directly on the domain like this http://domain.com/blog
  • Sabeeh ul Hassan: I would suggest you to use http://blog.domain.com because when you publish any post its URL will start from the first root ( http://blog.domain.com/Blog-Post-Title ) which is a more favorable URL structure in SEO.
  • Caleb Keiter: Great comments, everyone! I actually think domain.com/blog is best because you have to remember that subdomains are considered separate sites. A subdirectory blog will boost the Domain Authority on the main site, domain.com .
  • Tommy Skålberg: Great thoughts from +Caleb Keiter  ;. I would also say: Use the blog on your main site, you will have many benefits.

    - A growing amount of ranking subpages -> longtail SEO
    - Write about news and big happenings to get traffic and links from hot topics.
    - Make the blog to a door right to your important stuff, guide the visitor where you want them. The blog will be like a huge fishing net.
    - Take advantage of smart internal linking.
    - Add authorship. Maybe invite some trusted guys to blog as guests (with authorship).

    and so on...
