  • Shirish Deshpande: Do you agree its time to create mobile sites first and then up-size for desktop for SEO, especially if you are in competitive vertical?
  • Patrick Rabanser: I definitely don't agree for several reasons, first of all: (Usability) it is possible to use a "desktop" website on a mobile device the other way around it wouldn't work so well.
    Then I see a big problem for SEO, if you only have a mobile Site at the beginning you would loose all the desktop traffic and only rank on mobile devices, not so the other way around!

    If you get most of the Traffic from Mobile then you could do it, but at that point you should have a App for iOS and Android.
  • eBizWebpages: This is an interesting subject because there are definitely some businesses that would get more benefit out of a highly optimized mobile site than a standard "desktop" site.

    With "responsive" being the buzzword of the moment, I think it would be alot easier in some cases to build a site for mobile in mind as the primary access method.

  • Justin Y: I think it's wise to have both in mind and iOS or Android apps are not always the best solution like +Patrick Rabanser has mentioned. Every business is different and I think it naturally depends on the usability and features needed. For large data driven websites a standalone app may be faster but in the grand scheme of things, I think transparency, cross branding, and usability are the most important things to consider.
  • Patrick Rabanser: +Justin Y ; I agree.  ;
    There will never be 2 Projects that are alike, evrytime we have to analize a project and decide what the best way is to get the best results.
    Apps and Mobile Sites have both benefits and drawbacks.
  • Justin Y: +Patrick Rabanser that's exactly right.
  • Jim Munro: If it's any help, making new mobile pages and modifying mobile to look good on desktop is where  ;+Andy Wigglesworth ;is starting from for dumbSEOQuestions(dot)com.

    There's a lot more to do but I love what has been done so far.
