    <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow">

  • Patrick Rabanser: Hello +Saijo George, if a Site has ;
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow"> the search engines won't index that page, but the spider will follow the links on that page. ;
    Now if the spider encounters a rel=nofollow the won't follow that link!
    The more "specific" directive overrides the "general" directive, so rel=nofollow overrides Meta...! ( Like CSS rules).

    Here it becomes tricky...
    Google sometimes follows nofollow Links but does not index the linked page, if your page is linked from somewhere else with default setting(follow) the page will get indexed anyway!

    I was thinking that would be the case too, thanks for sharing your opinion. BTW have you come across any documentation that specifies this?
  • Patrick Rabanser: No I think it will be hard to find documentation about this as it is a very particular question.
    May I ask where you came across such a scenario? ;
  • Saijo George: It's for a forum that allows user generated content in the description. I want to selectively wee out the low quality stuff ( usually from non contributing members )
  • Tim Capper: Rel="nofollow" means Do Not Vouch they will still follow.

    Matt Cutts explanation of "nofollow" :  ;nofollow is intended to say "I don't editorially vouch for the source of this link." ;
