WP Configuration Issue.

Hi Folks
I may have an issue. I discovered when doing a speed test on my word press site that, and I`m assuming here, the index page was being redirected, and that it was taking 2 seconds to do so. Not good. And it reminded me of something I did a month back. I changed my blog from being site.com to site.com/blog and I set the homepage to be a static page I created. Because the blog wasn`t originally installed on that directory rather than the root, have I shot myself in the foot with this method now, since it`s now increasing load time redirecting to another page? Even tho it doesn`t look it to visitors. And, how can I fix this? Backup and reinstall correctly / suck it up?
Thanks!!

  • Glen Holdaway: Hi Folks
    I may have an issue. I discovered when doing a speed test on my word press site that, and I'm assuming here, the index page was being redirected, and that it was taking 2 seconds to do so. Not good. And it reminded me of something I did a month back. I changed my blog from being site.com to site.com/blog and I set the homepage to be a static page I created. Because the blog wasn't originally installed on that directory rather than the root, have I shot myself in the foot with this method now, since it's now increasing load time redirecting to another page? Even tho it doesn't look it to visitors. And, how can I fix this? Backup and reinstall correctly / suck it up?
    Thanks!!
  • Andy Wigglesworth: I am assuming that the site you are talking about is the one in your profile - (you show us the url, just make it a deadlink dot com etc)

    So, all you have done is your wordpress settings area, is change the static page to 'home' and your post page to 'blog'?

    Somethings to check...

    Check your htaccess file and make sure nothing odd has happened to it (you'll need to do this through FTP or your cpanel area in your host).

    You haven't installed some strange plugin recently?

    Your wordpress install is up-to-date?

    Might be worth contacting your hosts, to see if they've changed anything? ;

    Disable all your plugins, test again.
  • Brent Wildman: Your server response time is pretty awful. Who are you hosted with? Like +Andy Wigglesworth ; said, check your .htaccess and see if it's really redirecting or if it's rewriting correctly. ;
  • Emmett Smith: Have you tried wp super cache or any other cache plugin?
  • Glen Holdaway: Thanks everyone. +Andy Wigglesworth ;I did do what you said in your second paragraph. I had to create a blank page and save it so I could set the blog to show up on that page, so I have to assume it has some redirecting properties to it.
    I didn't think to check the .htaccess file, thanks.

    the website is glenandfiona dot com.

    I'm in Brisbane, Australia, and I'm hosting it in Sydney, through hosting dot webcity dot com dot au.
    And it looks like I went with a cheap plan when I chose them last year, so before I upgrade just checking my options, maybe I'll switch hosts, but the pageload speed is a big issue.

    +Emmett Smith ;, thanks, no I haven't tried a cache plugin, no idea about those, so I'll do some googling, thanks.
  • Emmett Smith: +Glen Holdaway I recommend it. The factory settings should work just fine.
