What`s the current thought on pingbacks from your OWN WordPress site?

What`s the current thought on pingbacks from your OWN WordPress site as it pertains to SEO? I`ve read several articles over the years that range from "just delete them" to "use a plugin to disable them".

Personally, when I add an internal link I add the relative link and this makes it so the pingback isn`t an issue.

Just wanted to see if others had thoughts on this as WordPress continues to grow as a blogging / development platform into 2014. #wordpress #pingbacks ?
