How does Google Places handle multiple businesses on the same floor?

We have multiple businesses in the same building all on the same floor (there are no suites) and they all want a Google Places account. I was wondering how Google Places would handle this. Nobody wants to be clumped together they all want to be considered separate entities and not be penalized when it comes to SEO. Suggestions on how I can accomplish this?

Tim Capper: I think it will be OK if they have different Phone Numbers for verification. How does the post office deliver mail - surely there must be some segmentation, how does the company registration group their postal address. If there is no segmentation then it should be ok - BUT certainly different tel numbers.
