Hello number ONE SEO community. If you were to build a website for the blind, what structure elements would you take into account? When building websites do you ever think of disabled people who may happen to visit them? Do you think Google treat such websites differently?
Thanks a lot for the comments.

RNIB is a charity here in the UK that works on visual impairment. That is a link in to their Web Access Centre which should have more than any of us can digest in one sitting
  • Tony McCreath: Google is a bit like a blind person, so making your website more accessible also helps google work you out.

Basic semantic markup like using headings, paragraphs, emphasis/italic, strong/bold, lists etc help the text readers used by the blind do a better job.

Alt attributes on images can contribute, but don't spam them as that is anoying. If an image adds nothing to the conversation it should have a blank alt. If you use images for buttons then the alt should say what will happen when it is pressed.

Other semantic markup like the html5 elements to indicate navigational and article sections should help the readers more as they evolve.
  • S?awomir Zdunek: +Tony McCreath ;Thanks. Do you happen to know if it is possible to see or I should say hear the website the way a blind person can do it? That would be very interesting.
  • Tony McCreath: Google "screenreader" to find the sort of tools thy use.

Call to +John Britsios who knows a lot more about this.
