would you canonical back to the http or canonical to the https?

Hi, on our site we have https implemented for a login area. There is duplication in URLs, ie  http://www.site.co.uk and https/:www.site.co.uk both exist. What`s best practise regarding redirection, would you canonical back to the http or canonical to the https?  Or, does it make no difference, we know https is recommended now so are favouring redirects to the https, what are your thoughts??
