how can a pingback hurt your site?

My question is how can a pingback hurt your site?

This pingback is automatic. It happens every time I use the word, "solar" as an anchor to one of my links, even internal.  I am trying  to rank for a long tail version of this keyword.

I have seen what pingbacks are. They are snippets of posts from my site and linking to my site. Since they are links to my site, I hesitate to unapprove them.

The problem with this particular pingback is, I don`t see a link to whomever this originated.  I have read that pingbacks are sometimes spam.

Should I unapprove this particular pingback or what is the consequences of allowing them??

  • Edwin Jonk: I guess you use WordPress pingback.

These pingbacks are in the comments where the links are nofollow (by default). Therefore the interlinking is okay. However if you have an 200 words article with hundreds of pingbacks in the comment, it may be frowned on.
