Will this hurt me from trying to rank?

My personal website andrewmoyers(dot)com (still in construction) has many blog topics. Will this hurt me from trying to rank my car/home insurance pages with Google? I like to write about different topics so my prospects can see that I`m more "human" or "real" compared to the standard insurance agent. Your response is much appreciated!?

  • Gene Urban: The chance of ranking high in this category is going to be tough. You are up against companies that have HUGE SEO budgets. I have the same problem with real estate.

I personally write on a number of non-real estate topics but these posts do involve my niche geographical market and are of interest to people there.

You may find your site is a good place to write and link to a FB page, email newsletter and such. You can get inbound traffic doing so and you may get a bit of organic juice.

I keep a list of commonly asked client questions. I've identified most commonly asked questions and write keyworded posts (base question in title and H3, H4 sub headline. This helps me get a better organic reach and I can use these posts in the above mentioned places.
  • Andrew Moyers: +Gene Urban I couldn't agree with you more! Google makes most of their revenue from ads and insurance companies are the number ONE customer of Google Adwords. I've been thinking about different strategies. One is to write about my hobbies (popular California hikes, campgrounds, etc.) and bring prospects in that way. I see you have a site on magic. That sounds like a great way to meet new prospects!
  • Athanasios Giannias: +Gene Urban I understand where and how to use the h1-h5 headings in a blog article. What is anchor text and how is it different to hyperlinks?
