  I'm thinking about social action buttons for an informational site with a clear but unfancy design (really the buttons, not the scripts or widgets).
  
  What do you prefer: The buttons provided by the social networks or self designed ones?
  Any known articles what works better (buttons known to the user or buttons in harmony with the design)?

  Federico Sasso: Interested question, and perfect timing in my case, as I have to make a redesign proposal for my company web site.
  I'd personally prefer the self designed route, as using the original would lead to non uniform design, with different size, proportion and colours... but I wonder what the potential legal implication would be: social sites usually give guidelines and terms of use for their branded logos.
