  • Mike Cooke: I have a client that wants more comments on his site however the subject matter is not the most interesting. I have looked at empire ave and other sites. Does anyone have any recommendations.
  • Dave Elliott: Do they have an active social media network at all? You can, for example, embed g+/facebook posts and subsequent comments in a web page pretty easily.

Other than that it is all about relationship building, which is a lot of effort but can be rewarding. Basically, comment on other peoples blogs/posts blah and then they will start looking at your clients content and commenting on it.
  • Jim Munro: I guess you could write something controversial about any subject under the sun, Mike, but I wonder what benefits your client thinks he will derive from comments. I would have thought that participation via reviews would be far more useful but I am not the sharpest tool in the shed.
  • Ryan Cramer: I have to agree with +Jim Munro. For a while I have been trying to tackle the social networking arena by using keywords and hashtags and all sorts of plugins and features.  ;But the only time I found interaction is when I did something goofy, something that insights a reaction.  ;When I started doing the same thing on my client's websites (although the clients did not like the idea), I not only got a reaction, but visits grew!

Also, and I am sure you are doing this, when there are comments, make sure you are responding to them... try to keep the conversation going.  ;+Dave Elliott ;made a good point of embedding the social media comment plugins because that taps into the network of friends that the commenter has as well.
