Hierarchical multi domain structure versus one centered domai

A client of mine has about 200 websites that he manages.  He`s heard of my success with the hierarchical domain structure where there is a top corporate domain that directs to the relative domains. Although I boast about the high success of such a structure and can describe the SEO that is the reason for the success, 99% of the SEO community says to collapse all the domains under one domain.  Can someone explain why?

  • Joshua Boles: Simple - you get all the links pointing to one single money domain. #Winning
  • Ryan Cramer: Can you please explain?  ;

    The way I figure it, when you have multiple "money domains" and put it under one domain, you actually dilute the keyword focus of the domain, and so you have to increase your link efforts to compensate - even though you have the same total of pages.
