Does language and the ending of the domain impact ranking?

Hi everyone,

One question please.
do the language of the content and the ending of the domain have any impact on the ranking ?

For example, let assume one website with content in the greek language.
Will the choise of domain, ending in either .gr or .eu have any difference in the ranking of Google ?
Thanks in advance.?

  • Edwin Jonk: Yes the .eu can rank better outside Google's local search engine for Greece (https://www.google.gr/)
    But if your business is in Greece I would go for the ccTLD because that sends a clear signal. Namely, that your business is in Greece. ;
  • Ioannis Anastasiou: Thanks +Edwin Jonk I suppose that Geolocation plays a major role to Google search.
  • albert mora: When you use a geo domain (e.g .gr) you are indicating google that your content is intended for Greek users
  • Collin Davis: +Ioannis Anastasiou if your target audience is people who speak the language Greek in the country Greece then by all means .gr is the domain that you should go for.

    However if you are also targeting users speaking the Greek language outside Greece, then .gr might not be a good choice. I know that in all likelihood its the first scenario. ;

    Saying this because often you have languages like Spanish that are spoken across multiple countries and this results in issues when you go for country specific domains. But in a scenario like this, def would suggest going for .gr domain.
  • Ioannis Anastasiou: Thanks +albert mora ;for your reply
  • Ioannis Anastasiou: Thanks +Collin Davis ;for your reply. So what you are saying is that a domain .gr for a site with ;greek language content ; would be the best ;ranking for greek visitors inside or outside Greece ?
  • Collin Davis: Inside of Greece - Yes, Outside of Greece - No But the latter, I believe would be a very small no. Right?

    So would suggest going for .gr domain.
  • Ioannis Anastasiou: Thanks +Collin Davis for your quick response.
