Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Rajan Bindra on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 02/23/2014).

Will too many backlink from a single website create any problem?

I commented on a blog that had `Recent Comments` section in it. Because of that, my comment is appearing on every page of that blog, and the GWT is reporting too many backlinks from that blog. Will it create any problem? Should I remove my comment, make it disappear from `recent comments` by making more comments, or should I not care about this at all??

  • Jim Munro: I am not an expert, Rajan, but I would not care about it at all.
  • Tony McCreath: How is GWT reporting "too many backlinks".

    Is this in the form of a penalty?

    If not, I would not worry about it. It's a common and natural thing to happen, so I'm sure Google knows how to handle it.
  • Rajan Bindra: I went through some case studies about the same. Most of people said they faced drop in rankings because of that. I don't think this could be issue, but just to be on safe side, I've made more comments on the same blog. ;
  • Neeraj Kumar: +Rajan Bindra the same thing about a lot of #backlinks but in other perspective I asked but did not get any satisfying answer.
    Some bloggers have listed my blog on their blogs in 'I like these blogs' and this show on every page of those blogs. #Webmaster in backlink section show that as backlinks on 30- 40 pages of same blog and for same anchor text i.e. my blog title.

    Is this good or bad for +SEO ? Will it be seen as paid or spam links for my blog?
  • Devin Peterson: No way should this hurt. If so, it'd be way to easy to hurt your competitors. I'm sure Google knows better. It's perfectly natural too and G's algo will recognize that.
  • Lori Eldridge: You might check to see if the links are nofollowed or not. And also run the domain through a SEO analysis program to determine the quality of the site. If they are followed and poor quality and sitewide, I would request removal and it they don't reply within a week then I'd add them to a disavow file.
