  • Lidia van Wyk: Hello. Does anyone have any advise with regards to what are the best top-end metrics to report on for SEO. My client is a high-end corporate who literally needs to see an overview of results. Very basic one page report. ;
  • Matt Raynes: Traffic and the best keywords driving it.
  • Neil Hannam: Conversion metrics. For the most part that's all that matters so i'd be looking to discuss conversions, conversion rates, conversions by traffic source, top converting pages, top converting keywords where you can find them and conversion funnels.

    Metrics like visits, bounce rates, time on site etc generally aren't of interest to corporate types, they want to know what the direct return is and how they can improve on it.
  • Lidia van Wyk: Hi Neil. Awesome. Thanks for your input. I was thinking along similar lines. ;
  • Allen Borza: +Lidia van Wyk ;as +Neil Hannam ;and I agree that conversion is one of the most important metrics at the end of the funnel. ;
    Time on site and bounce rates are related and I would mention bounce rates and what they mean if they are low.
    Increase in traffic is important if bounce rates are low.
  • Mike Stetzer: It depends on how "savvy" the client is. Some of our clients are concerned with metrics that I would never expect them to be concerned with. Neil is exactly right, though. Most clients are concerned about $$$ and ROI.
  • Matt Raynes: +Lidia van Wyk ;i was thinking along the lines of top-end metrics and one pager. Though with them being a high-end corporate best do a document containing all the above and below.
  • Gerk Mulder: Next to conversions, traffic sources we report visibilityscore for keywordbundles per websitecategory from AWR.

    Then you can report a correlation between growth of traffic/conversions and the growth of the visibilityscore on targeted keywords. Even better if you can report on global trends as wel. But that's maybe to much for your client
  • Rob Maas: All of these above mentioned figures are worthless to the management if they don't show a trend.
