Dumb SEO Questions

Is it possible in robots.txt to direct a user agent to the HTTPS version of a site?

A client of mine is worried about losing revenue attribution from Yahoo and Bing. However, Barry Schwartz has noted that Yahoo will pass referrer data to an HTTPS page.

My question is: Is it possible in robots.txt to direct a user agent to the HTTPS version of a site rather than the non-secure version??

  • Peter Fitzer: How many visits come from those 2? I'm guessing hardly any.
  • Shawn Cohen: Yeah, but when it's 5% of revenue and that loss could mean I get fired as a consultant b/c we didn't hit revenue targets, it then becomes a pretty big deal.
  • Peter Fitzer: Oh sorry. I didn't see the actual question part of your post (stupid phone). That, I do not know the answer too. Good question.
  • Shawn Cohen: Sure, no problem, Peter.
