  • John Coleman: Hi guys, has anyone good experience with parallax scrolling & SEO? What would you recommend to do if using parallax scrolling to make sure SEO is not compromised/damaged? thanks ;
  • Jeff Guest: Parallax is great, but I think there may be some SEO issues, but these might be mainly towards single page sites that just happen to use parallax. I'm in the process of redesigning my website and I want to use a parallax front page, but 'normal' pages and posts throughout the rest of the site. I think this approach will work as I'm not really wanting to optimise traffic to land on my homepage but rather on the pages with more content. This way anyone who lands on your homepage gets the big wow, but anyone who searched for a specific item that's on your pages gets what they want.
    Will you give mobile visitors a different version of the site?
  • Dave Elliott: What does Google think of single-page websites?
  • Jeff Guest: Matt Cutts says they like them.... "for the most part it should work for Google" - see this video: ;What does Google think of single-page websites?
    I think the problem is that you are only supposed to optimise 1 keyword phrase per page, and what if you need multiple keywords optimising? I don't think one page will cut it, you are diluting the optimisation by having to include multiple phrases. Plus there's all the things like internal links that G takes into account, and the fact that more pages = more content = more chances to be found.
    I love 1page sites (http://www.1pagewebs.co.uk) but I think they may be at a disadvantage when it comes to SEO.
  • John Coleman: +Jeff Guest ; +Dave Elliott ;thanks guys but I'm looking for something a little more concrete. First hand experience feedback would be great or a pointer to really good case study where someone may have tracked the changes/effects caused when moving to the new design. Maybe you guys do have that? Or have colleagues that have first hand experience? ;
  • Perry Bernard: +John Coleman ;Hi John, one of our sites has parallax scrolling, however, only on page 1. Personally, I don't like it, but aesthetically it's not bad if done well. SEOwise have had no issues with it.
  • John Coleman: Is organic ranking and traffic important/crucial to the site +Perry Bernard ;? It's just I am yet to see a website that is commercially focused and and not backed up by a very strong brand where a lot of brand search comes in. ;The other uses I see are for very nice design websites or novelty sites like this ;http://www.cabletv.com/the-walking-dead neither which ever seem to have a ranking or organic search focus.
