Is it a good idea to index tag pages and categories?

  Edwin Jonk: Personally I block googlebot with noindex on the tag pages and let the category pages in the index. The reason why is because tag pages and category pages serve the same content and there is no need to have them both in the index. ;
  
  Furthermore normally one tags an article with multiple tags while the article is only being served under one (maybe two) category pages. Meaning that category pages (normally) lead to less duplicates or less cutter. ;
  
  But at the end it is what you think is best and if you think the tag pages are valuable to searchers then leave them in the index.
