Dumb SEO Questions

Do RSS directories work?

I have a question, it`s pretty basic so please try and stay with me with this one. Are there any RSS directories out their which actually work. By work, I don`t mean in SEO terms, i.e giving a site authority (that would be nice though). I mean actually produce relevant visitors to the website/blog.

I have come across Alltop(dot)com but I was hoping there would be a few more. Like I said, I just want to be to generate relevant visitors.

Thank you for your help, as per it is much appreciated ?

  • Mike Cooke: Ill be honest I haven't really found one that will give good visits etc... But its not to say there aren't ones out there.
  • Harry Dance: Thanks +Mike Cooke ;. I'm in the process of promoting and enhancing my digital marketing blog without spending any money. Kind of like a personal challenge. I like the idea of creating a blog for all levels, which also allows me to experiment on and build something from nothing.

     ;I have considered allowing guest blogging and doing it myself, however I was looking for a few other ways which didn't have to involve to much time, I.e RSS feeds.

    Back to the drawing board!
  • Tim Capper: +Harry Dance ;they all work, so do all search engines.

    In fact i would say getting traffic from your rss feed is even more difficult then from regular search results.

    Have you looked at how a directory displays the rss feeds for categories, 1 they are not very enticing 2 you need to be publishing daily to stay ontop of the recently published to be found in that niche.

    I would say: Publish a good piece of content then go out there and market it, communities, blogs, forums.

    Once people have found your content and like it, they will recommend it and perhaps even add your rss feed to their reader.

    I am not trying to be a killjoy, but if you take a  ;minute to look at RSS directories and how they present your content, you will see what i am talking about.
  • Harry Dance: Hi +Tim Capper ;I thought as much, I just wanted to check it out if there was one or two which could help. I actually receive quite a few hits from alltop and they engage. However I disliked using it originally, because it looks spammy etc. Though with it's success I was willing to test out maybe one more at most.

    Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate all the help I can get. digitaldancer(dot)co(dot)uk is going to take a bit of work
  • Tim Capper: For sure +Harry Dance ;, not trying to teach you how to suck eggs or anything, but searched that and a few other terms and your desc is always :

    A few of you may know my old site to be www.digitaldancer  ;However out with the old and in with the new. So if you have ever wanted advice

    So very unappealing to click on in search
  • Harry Dance: Happy to suck eggs. It's been up for a week and a bit now and to honest I rushed to get it up.

    I just wanted a place to house my content but I should have focused on onsite before trying to get more viewers. I think I have become quite focused on everything bar SEO ironically, especially as it is partly about SEO! ;

    Bit gutting I am not in the midlands working for Creare any more, it would have been good to check your work out

    Thanks again though, any help is always appreciated . ;
  • Tim Capper: It's always the way, mate. Our own sites get ignored over clients sites, just the way it is :)
