Dumb SEO Questions

Is there such a thing as G+ geo-relevancy?

I have a question. I`m getting strange advice from my SEO person. Basically he says that if I have a bunch of followers on G+ and they are from all over the world (rather than just local followers in my area) that my g+ local maps ranking is going to suffer because geo- relevancy gets diluted. I have over 1, 000 followers. He`s going as far as saying I should now delete my G+ page and start over. Huh? I`ve noticed no movement in my local maps ranking in relation to followers. I`m in the same place I was before I had any followers. I think he`s paranoid and this is nothing to worry about. Any thoughts? ?

  • Jim Munro: I've not heard of this before, +Banyan Tree Healing Center ;, I doubt that it's an issue but  ;+Tim Capper ;is a Google My Business expert, maybe he can offer us both a clue. :)
  • Jim Munro: Consider tagging your SEO into this thread.
  • Perry Bernard: Never heard of such a thing. Sounds very unlikely to me!
  • Banyan Tree Healing Center: +Perry Bernard I know, sounds bizarre to me.
  • Dave Elliott: Sounds very very unlikely to me. Although I'm kinda looking forward to ranking well for SEO specialist Australia rather than Wycombe uk, might use it as an excuse to move.
  • Jim Munro: Better pop round for a beer when you get here, Dave. :)
  • Tim Capper: So your SEO guy only wants local followers on your G+ .... hmmmpfff.

    Build your followers and engagers from wherever you want. ;

    Local reviews make sense, but engagers, no.
  • Dave Elliott: Local reviews don't necessarily make sense either though! Many businesses will have international clients and it would be nightmare to manage all the places categories for things like that.

    Also, i could have visited say a restaurant/theatre/shop/hotel/anything while i was over on holiday, I may even regularly visit a country for work(i wish).

    I could understand google being suspicious if a company had all or most of its reviews from a certain country/locale other than its own, especially if all the reviews were posted the same week!

    Don't buy reviews/followers, but if it is natural i can't imagine it being a problem is my basic advice.
  • Perry Bernard: +Dave Elliott ;natural probably = distributed in both locations and times. Unnatural probably = clustered times, clustered or single location, not matching location of business.
  • Banyan Tree Healing Center: +Tim Capper yes, my reviews are from whoever actually comes to my business. After building over a thousand g+ followers from everywhere, I've seen no effect on my local listing! I don't think it makes it difference.
  • Banyan Tree Healing Center: +Dave Elliott Thanks for the reassurance.
